VTT is proud to offer a Phenolic spacer for the BMW B58 platform. When upgrading to an aluminum charge cooler you get the benefit of a better core, and more cooling capacity, but it also comes with the downside of DIRECT heat transfer from the head to the manifold which can cause heat soak and less-than-ideal IAT’s even with an upgraded charge cooler. We manufacture these from G11 Expoxy sheet which has great heat and hardness characteristics, and we feel is the ideal material for this application. The thickness is 8mm.

With the upgraded cooler you get the benefit of a better core, and more cooling capacity, but it also comes with the downside of DIRECT aluminum-to-aluminum heat transfer from the head to the manifold which can cause heat soak and less-than-ideal IATs even with an upgraded charge cooler. We manufacture these from G11 Expoxy sheet which has great heat and hardness characteristics, and we feel is the ideal material for this application. The thickness is 8mm. The spacer is machined to accept factory O-rings for a perfect seal, and they are included

G11 Specs:

G-11 has similar mechanical properties and composition to G-10 phenolic, including high mechanical strength, low water absorption, and a low dissipation factor. Compared to G-10, G-11 is more suited for continuous use at higher temperatures, making it ideal for the most critical high-heat applications. It retains 50% of its structural strength at elevated temperatures in excess of 300°F.

G-11 sheets comply with the requirements of Mil-I-24768/3, Type GEB.
